Although Diablo 4 came out in the middle of 2023, it's gearing up for its second expansion pack soon. Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred will launch next year, and with it, Diablo 2's Paladin class will return.
The news was just shared through The Game Awards' livestream, and a few more details were confirmed beyond the return of the Paladin.
The Paladin Is The First Of Two New Classes
The Second Is Still A Mystery
As we're whisked away to the new region of Skovos in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, the Paladin will be joining the fray, in addition to a second yet-to-be-revealed class.
Here's the full description of the Paladin class from Blizzard:
The Paladin rises as the realm darkens, wielding hammer, shield, and Holy Light to smite Mephisto’s demon army with righteous fury. Through melee combat and divine abilities, the Paladin empowers players to strike with both unwavering faith and overwhelming force.
We can expect the Paladin to provide some aural party buffs, unless Blizzard has completely reworked the class. If it's nearly as fun as the Diablo 2 iteration, it'll be fun to play with friends, especially if you're jumping back into the game for the expansion.

It's The Second Expansion For Diablo 4
Blizzard also promises "sweeping updates" for the game in the wake of Lord of Hatred's expansion release. Skill trees have been "deeply reworked," providing class-specific variants as well as additional level caps, a philosophy that extends to all eight classes. A new loot filter has been added, as well as enhanced crafting, with the teased return of the Horadric Cube.
Endgame has also been "overhauled" to let players choose "War Plans" and "craft their own endgame," dictating their endgame experience. The Echoing Hatred also serves as the "ultimate test" for the game, challenging players to take down hordes of enemies. Sanctuary will also allow fishing now, which sounds good to me.
All the changes for Diablo 4 seem great on paper, and I'm waiting anxiously for the second class reveal. It'll be interesting to see if it's all-new like the Spiritborn, or a classic class from Diablo's decades-long history.
