The Game Awards 2025 was billed as the destination for Tomb Raider's reemergence, but it still managed to bring a major surprise. Lara Croft, complete with a new character design, will star in two new Tomb Raider games, both of which were revealed during TGA.
In 2026, the famed franchise will return with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of Lara Croft's debut from 1996. The following year, in 2027, a brand-new title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, will release. The latter is developed solely by Crystal Dynamics, while the former is a partnership between Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog. Both titles are being published by Amazon Game Studios.

Legacy of Atlantis, as a remake, will return to Lara Croft's original design – blue tank top, shorts, tall boots, and trademark dual pistols. The same outfit is, however, also coming to Tomb Raider: Catalyst. There has so far been no mention of Catalyst being a sequel to Crystal Dynamics' previous Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (developed in partnership with Eidos-Montreal), but there are indications that it will tie in with Amazon's live-action Tomb Raider series.
According to the Tomb Raider website, Catalyst takes place primarily in Northern India, where a cataclysmic event has thrust ancient ruins from underground to the surface. Lara Croft investigates the mystery as treasure hunters from around the globe descend on the region. Catalyst will release in 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The Original Tomb Raider Comes Back In 2026 With A Remake

Coming next year, to the same platforms, is Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the franchise's debut. It comes exactly 30 years after Lara Croft first stepped into the limelight, and Legacy of Atlantis brings "modern gameplay, visuals, and storytelling," plus "new surprises that honor the spirit and atmosphere of the original game."
The original game's iconic fights against dinosaurs return as Lara hunts down pieces of a powerful artifact known as the Scion. Both Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst feature the voice of Alix Wilton Regan as Lara Croft. Her new design is sure to please longtime fans, and the two Tomb Raider games are a couple of the major highlights that have come between awards announcements at TGA.
