By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIt’s becoming routine for Chicago Bears defensive end Austin Booker to be punished by the NFL after playing the Green Bay Packers.
Bookers was fined twice back in December for a total of $11,636 for two illegal hits on Packers quarterback Jordan Love — the second of which was a helmet-to-helmet blow that knocked Love out of the game.
Now, Booker is having to bust out his checkbook again after he was hit with additional punishment for another hit on Love in Chicago’s 31-27 win over Green Bay in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

On Saturday, the NFL announced that Booker was hit with a $46,371 fine for use of the helmet on yet another hit on Love at the 9:40 mark of the second quarter. The play also drew a 15-yard penalty.
As Love tucked it and took off running, Booker came in from his left side, lowered his head and took the signal-caller off his feet. While likely not intentional, there was helmet-to-helmet contract, which is why Booker’s fine was the largest of the week.

Booker finished the game with six tackles, two QB hits, a sack, and a tackle for loss.
While the fine is unfortunate, the good news for the Bears is it won’t affect Booker’s status for Sunday’s divisional-round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Booker showed impressive growth in his second season, improving from 21 tackles to 35, 1.5 sacks to 4.5, 10 pressures to 34, five hurries to 19, and three QB hits to nine, per Pro Football Fcous.
