Portland got a big night from its bench on Thursday, overcoming the absence of Deni Avdija in a 117-101 victory over the visiting Atlanta Hawks. Shaedon Sharpe scored 24 points while Jerami Grant led a bench crew that hung up 55 points by dropping 16. Rayan Rupert added 13 points, and Caleb Love and Jrue Holiday pumped in 12 apiece. Donovan Clingan grabbed 12 rebounds as well.
Luka Dončić’s 39 points weren’t nearly enough for the Lakers in a 135-117 loss to the visiting Charlotte Hornets on Thursday night. LeBron James finished with 29 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Jake LaRavia added 18 points in the loss. Los Angeles led by as much as 13 in the early going before Charlotte swung the momentum of the game in the second quarter.
Avdija is listed as day-to-day and averages 26.1 points for the Trail Blazers. Sharpe gets 21.5 points per game, Holiday posts 15.5 points and 7.3 assists a night, and Clingan notches 10.9 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest. Dončić leads the NBA with an average of 33.6 points and dishes 8.7 assists per game, while James, in his record 23rd NBA season, averages 22.7 points per game. DeAndre Ayton books 13.9 points and 8.7 boards for the Lakers.
