Netflix has announced a second season of their upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot, months before the first season has even aired.
The original Western historical drama series, based on the best-selling books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, ran on NBC for over 200 episodes from 1974 to 1983. It has recently enjoyed a resurgence thanks to its streaming availability on Peacock.
Netflix first revealed in January 2025 that it would reboot the series. The first season is set to arrive on the streaming service July 9.
In a statement, showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine said: “I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”
Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, added: “We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”

They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new global audience with Netflix.”
The original series was produced by Ed Friendly, while the reboot will be overseen by his son Trip under their Friendly Family Productions banner.
Trip Friendly said previously: “It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st century audience in a way that brings together fans of both the books and the original television series.
“I am thrilled by our talented creative team led by Rebecca Sonnenshine who are bringing these beloved stories about family, community, and survival to longtime fans and new generations.”

It is not the first time a reboot of the beloved series has been mooted. A film adaptation was underway in 2014 but never made it to the screen.
