By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIt’s believed that Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis is set to land a lucrative deal with a starting opportunity this offseason.
Willis, a former third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans back in 2022, turned heads during his 11 relief appearances of Jordan Love over the last two years.
During that stretch, Willis has thrown for 972 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions with a 135.2 passer rating, while rushing for 261 yards and three touchdowns.
Now, he’s in a position to go from backup to starter with several QB-needy teams likely to make a run at him once he becomes a free agent on March 11.

And according to NFL fantasy expert Matthew Barry, there’s one team that is presumably the favorite to sign the 26-year-old.
“Speaking of Arizona, I heard they want Malik Willis,” Barry wrote. “Said one source to me: ‘Malik Willis to Arizona for $30M – mark it.’ … I do think Arizona should be the betting favorite to land Willis.
“I don’t think Minnesota is in play for him (more on that below) nor do I think Miami is a destination for Willis. The Dolphins are just too cash-strapped and won’t be able to afford Willis in what should be a robust market for the Green Bay backup.”
The Cardinals are in the market for a new starting quarterback after informing Kyler Murray he was going to be released.
Arizona has Jacoby Brissett, who threw for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions last season, under contract in 2026 but the team presumably wants to bring in a younger option to compete with him.
