Chris Evans comes back as Captain America in new Avengers: Doomsday art that shows what the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie could do with Steve Rogers. When Marvel announced the cast of the next Avengers movie through a long live-stream, fans were shocked that Evans' name was nowhere to be seen. After all, the actor has led some of the MCU's biggest hits.
His Avengers co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. were part of the announcement, leading to the question of whether Evans is truly in the movie, as reports claim to be the case, or not, which the actor has claimed to be true. Now, new Avengers: Doomsday art not only brings back Captain America, but he is not alone in his return.
On Instagram, artist @yugraphics00 shared what Captain America and Peggy Carter's MCU return in Avengers: Doomsday could look like.
The fan art sees Peggy don a military uniform, not the Captain Carter suit seen in What If...? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That tracks, as the regular Peggy was last seen in the MCU's latest Avengers movie, Endgame, alongside Steve Rogers when he stayed in the past. Captain America has a beard in the fan art.

The new Avengers: Doomsday art is directly connected to what we have heard about the movie. While Evans and Hayley Atwell were not announced by Marvel as part of the cast of the next Avengers movie, that does not necessarily mean they will not be in it. In fact, given that Avengers: Endgame seemed to end their characters' storylines, preserving this surprise makes sense.
Marvel might not have announced their returns, but Chris Evans was reported to join Avengers: Doomsday's cast in December 2024, almost a year ago. Atwell was reported to be back as Peggy Carter later that month. That same report also stated that back in 2021, when Evans and Marvel talked about his MCU return, a Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter movie almost happened.
In June, Evans told ScreenRant that he felt "sad to not be back with the band," maintaining that he is not in the MCU movie despite the reports. As for Atwell, she claimed to Den of Geek that she would love to be back for the next two Avengers movies, but did not confirm if that was part of Marvel's plans.
Why Chris Evans & Hayley Atwell Make Sense For Avengers: Doomsday

In the grand scheme of things, the MCU can't simply bring back Downey as Doctor Doom and not have Evans' Captain America interact with him. The Multiverse Saga has also shown how messing with timelines and other universes tends to disrupt things. As such, the fact that Captain America stayed in the past with Peggy should have major repercussions.
Perhaps those could even impact Doctor Doom in some form, connecting the two main actors of the MCU yet again. Given that Steve and Peggy were last seen together in Avengers: Endgame, if Evans is back, then Atwell needs to be too. With the Russo Brothers, who helmed two of Evans' Captain America movies, leading Avengers: Doomsday, convincing Evans to return might have been easier.
