Nicole Kidman’s latest role and adaptation from Prime Video has officially revealed a first look at the actress and the cast in Scarpetta.
Prime Video has unveiled a first look at Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling novels, which will premiere on March 11. The crime thriller series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, and Blumhouse Television, with stars Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, Ariana DeBose, Rosy McEwen, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish bringing the novel to life.
The forensic crime thriller is based on Cornwell’s bestselling book series, Kay Scarpetta, which has been developed and written for television by Liz Sarnoff, with credits in Barry, The Leftovers, and Lost. The official synopsis is:
"Scarpetta brings Patricia Cornwell's iconic literary character to life in a gripping series starring Nicole Kidman as “Dr. Kay Scarpetta.” With skilled hands and an unnerving eye, this unrelenting medical examiner is determined to serve as the voice of the victims, unmask a serial killer, and prove that her career-making case from 28 years prior isn't also her undoing.
Set against the backdrop of modern forensic investigation, the series delves beyond the crime scene to explore the psychological complexities of both perpetrators and investigators, creating a multi-layered thriller that examines the toll of pursuing justice at all costs."
Scarpetta takes place over two timelines, with the dual narratives between Kidman’s character Kay Scarpetta as she begins her career as a Chief Medical Examiner in the '90s to now, when she returns to her hometown and resumes her career to investigate a gruesome murder. She also must navigate the tumultuous dynamic with her sister Dorothy Farinelli (played by Curtis) and face secrets that could unravel her life.

Kidman has been a well-established actress for decades, with her most notable roles including Moulin Rouge!, Big Little Lies, and Practical Magic. She will be reprising her role as Gillian Owens in Practical Magic 2 next year, as well as her role in Big Little Lies. She’s also set to appear in The Young People, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and Discretion.
Curtis is also a well-known actress who got her big break in such films as Halloween and True Lies. She will be appearing in other upcoming projects apart from Scarpetta, including Murder She Wrote, Ella McCay, Sender, and Spychosis.
