The Man United vs Man City live stream promises to be a hugely entertaining fixture, marking a new era at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime as interim head coach Michael Carrick takes charge for the 198th Manchester derby.

Carrick was appointed eight days after Ruben Amorim's dismissal on a deal until the end of the season. The former United captain previously oversaw three matches in late 2021 (W2 D1) and returns seven months after leaving Middlesbrough, where he won 46.3% of his 136 games.

United are seventh in the Premier League, three points off the top four, but have won just one of their last six matches (D4 L1). They followed three straight 0-0 league draws against Wolves, Leeds and Burnley with a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup, Darren Fletcher's final game as interim boss, confirming a 40-match season, their shortest since 1914–15.

Carrick's first challenge comes against City and league leaders Arsenal. United lost 3-0 at the Etihad in September, have failed to score in both league derbies in a season since 1973–74, and have blanked in four of their last five home league meetings with City, including the last two, a run not seen since 1911–14.

City arrive unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions (W10 D3) and nine in the league (W6 D3). After three straight Premier League draws, Pep Guardiola's side beat Exeter City 10-1 in the FA Cup and secured a 2-0 away win over Newcastle in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final. January signing Antoine Semenyo has scored twice and earned two man-of-the-match awards since joining from Bournemouth for £64m.

Despite their form, City trail leaders Arsenal by six points with 17 league games remaining. Guardiola, now the Premier League's longest-serving manager, will oversee his 31st Manchester derby, having lost nine previously, a figure exceeded only against Liverpool and Tottenham. City have also won nine Premier League away games at Old Trafford, more than any other visiting side, and only Liverpool have scored more goals there than the Sky Blues (37).
