The Baltimore Orioles have been aggressive this offseason, signing Pete Alonso and Ryan Helsley and acquiring Shane Baz and Taylor Ward in a four-for-one trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Orioles could still use help in the starting rotation, however. There are still some high-end free agents available, and MLB.com's Andrew Simon tabbed Ranger Suárez as the perfect fit for them. Suárez spent the last eight seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and just had a career year.

Suárez started 26 games and posted a 3.20 ERA. He was an All-Star in 2024 and was one of the biggest snubs from the All-Star Game last season. He logged career highs in strikeouts and innings pitched. He has also been stellar in the postseason. He has a 1.48 ERA in the postseason, in 11 games.

The Orioles are looking to make it back into the postseason, and Suárez can help them do that. He may not be a true ace like Framber Valdez or Tatsuya Imai, capable of eating innings. However, he is effective and may be cheaper than other high-end pitching options on the open market.

The Phillies may not see a need to re-sign Suárez. Their rotation already has Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez and Jesús Luzardo. Taijuan Walker had a resurgent season and Andrew Painter is nearing his MLB debut. Suárez may not be an essential player anymore, and the Orioles could certainly put him to great use.
