By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Dallas Cowboys lost to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, falling to 6–8–1 on the season. They were officially eliminated from playoff contention for the second straight year after the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Washington Commanders on Saturday night.
Dallas’ last postseason appearance was in 2023, and their most recent playoff win came in 2022 when they defeated Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, their last Super Bowl appearance was all the way back in the 1995 season. On Sunday, reflecting on another year that extends that drought, longtime owner Jerry Jones assigned the blame for the Cowboys’ struggles.
"I'll admit that the Cowboys management has played a big role [in the 30-year Super Bowl drought]," Jones said, placing the blame mainly on himself. "But seriously, I'm very disappointed that the way we're structured and my role puts us here tonight. I'm tremendously disappointed."

There’s no question the Cowboys have had the talent to field winning teams over the years, and this year’s offense has been one of the most productive in the NFL.
That said, their defense has been a major liability, ranking near the bottom in most key statistical categories this season, which has contributed to their losing record.
With two games remaining, Jones will be at the center of crucial offseason decisions regarding not just the roster but also the coaching staff—particularly defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who appears to be firmly on the hot seat.
