Apple TV’s Emmy-winning spy thriller “Slow Horses” is gathering its reins for a sixth season, and it’s further ahead than most people think.
In fact, “Slow Horses” Season 6 has already been filmed. The news might have got lost in the shuffle amongst the streamer’s other headline-grabbing shows, such as “Pluribus” and “Down Cemetery Road,” but the sixth season of Slow Horses was greenlit even before its fourth season ended in October 2024.
The brief synopsis reads: “Season six sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.” With Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) now taken over Claude’s position as First Desk, it looks like the ragtag band of misfit agents are about to embark on their most personal assignment yet.
...Adapted from author Mick Herron's award-winning Slough House series, “Slow Horses” premiered in 2022 and stars Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the head of a team of former MI5 expelled from their positions and dumped in a facility for outcasts called Slough House.
Will There be a Season 6 of ‘Slow Horses’?
Yes, in October 2024, Apple TV announced “Slow Horses” will be back for a sixth season. It will consist of six episodes.
“Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+, in a statement.
‘Slow Horses’ Season 6 Release Date
There is no release date for “Slow Horses” Season 6 yet. With a new season coming every year on Apple TV, though, the pattern dictates Season 6 should be released in the fall of 2026. This is a fast turnaround, but Oldman says he doesn’t want to keep fans waiting.
"We enjoy these people that come into our living room once a week, and then the show ends, and you've got to wait two years for it to come back, if it is coming back,” Oldman tells Screenrant. “An example would be Severance. So, I think if the audience likes the show, they invest their time in it, we want to come back and sort of deliver, so that was the thinking that we could get a quicker turnover."
‘Slow Horses’ Season 6 Story
Season 6 of “Slow Horses” will reportedly cover two books. These are the sixth and seventh in Herron’s series, “Joe Country” and “Slough House.”
As per the “Joe Country” synopsis: “When the man responsible for killing a slow horse breaks cover at last, Lamb sends the slow horses out to even the score…Meanwhile, in Regent’s Park, Diana Taverner’s tenure as First Desk is running into difficulties. If she’s going to make the Service fit for purpose, she might have to make deals with a familiar old devil.”
