OnePlus 15R launches with absolutely massive battery, and alongside iPad competitor

OnePlus is ending the year strong with solid smartphone and tablet offerings. The post OnePlus 15R launches with absolutely massive battery, and alongside iPad competitor appeared first on Digital Tre...

OnePlus has officially launched a trio of new products after teasing all three for a couple of months now. The headliner among them is the OnePlus 15R and its ginormous battery, and it lands alongside new affordable tablet and smartwatch devices.

Kicking off with the OnePlus 15R, the star of the show with it’s 7,400mAh battery, which is 100mAh bigger than the already-huge power pack found in its flagship sibling, the OnePlus 15.

That phone can easily last two days on a single charge, so we’re expecting similarly stellar performance from the 15R – although you’ll need to wait for our full review to find out if the massive battery can deliver the longevity we’re hoping for.

The 15R is a more affordable variant of the firm’s flagship offering, packing a 6.83-inch 1.5K Full HD+ display with 165Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and the choice of 256GB or 512GB of storage.

One of the minor gripes we had with the 15R’s predecessor, the excellent OnePlus 13R (there is no 14 numbered entry), was its slow charging, and the good news is OnePlus has addressed that with 80W SUPERVOOC charging (vs 55W on the 13R). OnePlus claims the faster charging speed can get you from 1% to 100% in under 60 minutes.

On the back you’ll find a dual camera system with a main 50MP Sony snapper beside an 8MP ultrawide. The OnePlus 15R come with a bunch of photography features too, including the firm’s Clear Night Engine for low light shooting, and its Ultra Clear Mode and Clear Burst mode for high quality shots and less motion blur. On the front you get a 32MP selfie camera.

And for those after a durable phone, the 15R boasts the brand’s highest-ever dust and water IP rating with IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K certification. That means this phone can withstand water jets, heated water jets up to 176F, and submersion at depths of up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

The OnePlus 15R runs the brand’s OxygenOS 16 UI over the top of Android, and it’s committed to four years of software updates and six years of security updates. This isn’t market-leading in terms of length of software support, but it does provide reasonable peace of mind for those looking to hold onto the 15R for an extended time.

And of course, it’s not a new phone in 2025 if AI isn’t mentioned. The 15R retains the brands recently introduced Plus Key button on the left, and OnePlus’ Plus Mind AI and Mind Space storage area, a searchable space for all your phone memories.

The OnePlus 15R price starts at $699.99 for the 12GB + 256GB configuration, with the 512GB model setting you back $799.99 and only available in the Charcoal Black colorway. Compared to the 13R, those prices show an increase of $100 between the generations, so while the 15R still gives you plenty for your money, it doesn’t appear to be quite as great value.

The OnePlus 15R is available in two colors, Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze, with pre-orders open now and the handset officially going on sale on January 8 at Amazon, Best Buy and OnePlus.com.

But if you’re after long battery life at a much lower cost, you might want to check out the recently announced Moto G Power 2026, which is less than half the price of the 15R while claiming 49 hours of use from a single charge – although it doesn’t have the same level of performance or cameras.

There’s a tablet and a watch, too

Meanwhile, the OnePlus Pad Go 2 is the firm’s latest affordable slate, sliding in under the premium OnePlus Pad 3. OnePlus says this new slate is designed more for streaming at home, rather than productivity, but it does come with stylus support.

While it might be a cheaper option in the OnePlus tablet stable, you still get a sizable 12.1-inch LCD display with a 2800 x 1980 resolution, Dolby Vision support, and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

There’s also a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, 10,050mAh battery, 33W SUPERVOOC charging and quad speakers packed inside the 6.83mm thick frame, which tips the scales at 597g (599g for the Wi-Fi + 5G variant).

The OnePlus Pad Go 2 price starts at $399 for the 128GB, Wi-Fi only variant. That’s $50 more than Apple’s base iPad, but the Pad Go 2 does have the bigger display.

It will be available in two colors, Black Shadow and Lavender Drift with pre-orders opening today, December 17, and the on-sale date is December 26.

The OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Pad Go 2 will both be on sale in North America, but the firm’s third new product won’t be available in the region.

The OnePlus Watch Lite will only be available in Europe, and boasts a battery which can last up to seven days with high usage (or 4-5 with the always-on display feature enabled).

It’s one of the slimmest smartwatches around at 8.9mm, with the body weighing 39g, while the 1.39-inch screen features a 3000 nit ultra-bright display covered in durable glass crystal.

If you’re after a smartwatch from the brand in North America, your only option continues to be the still very good, OnePlus Watch 3.
