Bernardo Silva spoke to the media at the Santiago Bernabéu ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League showdown between Real Madrid and Manchester City.

On Mbappé’s Potential Absence: “It doesn’t change much”

Silva downplayed the idea that Kylian Mbappé’s possible absence would significantly alter Manchester City’s preparation.

“It doesn’t change much if Mbappé can’t play. In Mbappé’s case, he’s a very special player. If they have him, it’s better for them. But Real Madrid doesn’t have bad players; if he doesn’t play, maybe Rodrygo will. Whoever plays, it will be difficult.”

On Real Madrid’s Pressing and Tactical Adjustments

When asked about tactical differences under Xabi Alonso, Bernardo remained cautious about drawing conclusions.

“I haven’t seen many Real Madrid matches. From what we’ve seen this week, there are differences in the pressing; they didn’t do it like that in the past. I don’t know if they’ll do it tomorrow, but I couldn’t tell you about any differences.”

He added that regardless of any tweaks, the venue itself guarantees difficulty.

“Coming to this stadium is always difficult.”

On the Bernabéu’s Mystique: “Form doesn’t matter”

Bernardo — one of City’s most experienced Champions League performers — spoke about the uniqueness of playing at the Bernabéu.

“From my experience, it’s never easy to come to the Bernabéu and play against Real Madrid. I think I’ve played here five or six times, sometimes with teams in worse form, but it’s always difficult. Current form doesn’t matter much. I expect a very strong Real Madrid.”

On Madrid Without Mbappé and on City’s Mentality

Silva also rejected the idea that Real Madrid without Mbappé would be a weakened or less threatening opponent.

“I’ve played against Real Madrid in the past without Mbappé. They’ve always had great teams and players like Vinicius and Rodrygo.”

He dismissed any notion of personal or collective “revenge,” despite the rich recent history between the sides.

“We’ve played many times; revenge isn’t a word I like to use. Tomorrow is a good test for a young team like ours, and it’s an important challenge.”
