The Oklahoma Sooners earned a hard-fought victory over the LSU Tigers in Week 14, and very likely have earned a berth in the College Football Playoff with Saturday’s win. The 17-13 victory was far from pretty, but it improved OU’s overall record to 10-2, and their SEC record to 6-2.
With less than a week before Selection Sunday, the newest wave of bowl projections came in after last weekend’s Rivalry Week action, and the picture began to come into focus for the Sooners.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUSA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith has Oklahoma as the No. 8 seed in the CFP, as does CBS Sports, and Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura over at ESPN have the same take as well.
In all three projections, the Sooners are predicted to host the ninth-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Norman. If that projection were to come true, it’d be a battle between two of the top five blue blood programs in the history of college football for a chance to move on to the quarterfinals.
Oklahoma appears to be in good standing as far as their status to make the CFP is concerned, but much of the focus has shifted to whether or not the Sooners will play host in the first round or will be going on the road. Much of what happens in this week’s conference championship games will determine that, as OU will be watching at home, hoping that there’s one more game on Owen Field in 2025.
