Four-star athlete Salesi Moa has flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Utah

Ogden (Utah) Fremont athlete Salesi Moa has flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Utah and will sign with the Utes on Thursday.

Thursday is Moa’s 18th birthday so the family decided to hold off on signing today to make his birthday celebration more special.

The talented athlete originally committed to the Vols back in July in a very tight race over Utah. The Utes were able to rally back and land one of the most versatile players in the country.

“I’m staying home,” Moa said. “In the end, I felt like Utah was the place where I could build my legacy.

“I want to be legendary and I want my name cemented in the history of Utah football. This is my home, and this is where I’m writing my story.”

Moa comes from an athletic family as his father Ben played tight end at Utah and competed in MMA. His two older brothers were both linebackers at BYU before transferring to Michigan State (Aisea) and Connecticut (Sione) respectively.

We always felt Salesi was the best all around athlete in the family and is currently rated the No. 54 player nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking.

He’s among the most versatile prospects in the country and was recruited equally hard on both sides of the ball over the last couple of years.

“I’m going to play both ways at Utah as well,” Moa said. “I’ll start out on offense first and then eventually I’ll move over to defense and play safety.

“I’m excited, Utah always made me feel like a priority and I have a really strong comfort level there. It’s a great school and I’m ready to go in there and chase history.”

At 7v7 events and camps, he will typically work out at wide receiver and has always been an extremely tough cover. He’s a physical player who shows both initial quickness getting off the line and suddenness getting out of his breaks.

He runs well after the catch, has strong hands and showed improved top end speed over the last year.

Moa shows a ton of range at safety to go with high level field awareness and instincts. He’s a tough kid, a solid tackler in space and plays with a mean streak.
