The school made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, not long after the ballyhooed four-star quarterback talent officially put ink to paper in a moment shared on Instagram live.
Lyons, the Folsom High product who was once rated a composite five-star QB but recently dropped to a four-star rating in the 247 Sports composite rankings, is the headliner of BYU’s 2026 recruiting class that ranks in the top 25 nationally.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementEarlier in the day, a report indicated that Lyons was “unlikely” to sign with BYU on Wednesday. At 2:41 p.m. MST, though, Lyons shared on social media platform X he would indeed be signing Wednesday.
Lyons, the school’s highest-rated quarterback prospect since five-star Ben Olson inked with BYU in the early 2000s, is expected to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Florida prior to enrolling at the school.
He is the highest-rated recruit to sign with BYU in the Kalani Sitake era and has a 0.9818 score in 247 Sports’ composite rankings.
Lyons and his Folsom team are still alive in the postseason — this week, they’ll face Archbishop Riordan in the California Division I-AA semifinals.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHe has thrown for 3,270 yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions this year while completing 76.1% of his passes, according to MaxPreps. Lyons has also rushed for 342 yards and 14 touchdowns.
