DK Metcalf blamed by Steelers teammate's dad for offensive struggles

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense has been utterly disappointing this season, from failing to establish the run game to an inconsistent passing attack. But if you asked Asante Samuel Jr.'s father about the latter, the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of DK Metcalf.

On Asante Samuel Sr.'s Say What Needs to Be Said podcast, the former NFL cornerback blamed Metcalf as "most of the problem" on offense, tearing the Steelers’ top wideout for his play this season.

"[Metcalf is] a non-factor. He is most of the problem," Samuel said. "Aaron Rodgers needs someone to throw to. He's used to having elite receivers that can suddenly get open. DK Metcalf can't provide that for him, and DK is the reason that Aaron is looking so old.

"Because he keeps trying to throw DK Metcalf the football and he is not even getting an ounce of separation, especially when he’s going against press coverage. Aaron Rodgers continues to try to look for him, and then he makes everything look terrible and old and outplayed and outdated.”

Through 12 games, Metcalf has caught 45 passes for 605 yards and five touchdowns, a career-low average of 50.4 receiving yards per game.

While Samuel Sr. has pointed to Metcalf's inability to get open as a detriment to Pittsburgh's offense, others have argued it was a lack of quality receivers outside of the top receiver — a problem that the arrival of former All-Pro WR Adam Thielen may rectify.
