The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced some roster news over the past few days. Here’s an overview:

  • S Marcus Epps’ 21-day practice window to return from injured reserve was opened.

  • WR Terrace Marshall was signed to the practice squad.

  • DB Parry Nickerson was released from the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

MARCUS EPPS

The Eagles previously placed Epps on IR with an undisclosed injury back on November 1. After missing four games, he became eligible to return to practice.

The Eagles can gauge Epps’ progress this week before making a decision on activating him to the roster in time for the team’s Week 14 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Eagles have until 4:00 PM Eastern on Monday, December 8 to make the move if they want him to suit up that night.

Assuming he’s healthy enough to play, Epps will likely start ahead of Sydney Brown at safety. Brown unsurprisingly struggled in the Eagles’ Week 13 loss to the Chicago Bears and Epps was previously ahead of him on the depth chart anyway.

Epps’ eventual return will give the Eagles three full-time safeties on the roster: him, Reed Blankenship, and Brown. Andrew Mukuba was placed on injured reserve last week due to the fractured ankle he suffered in Week 12. The Eagles temporarily elevated Andre’ Sam from the practice squad in Week 13 in order to have more safety depth.

TERRACE MARSHALL

The Eagles had an open practice squad spot to fill after promoting Britain Covey to the roster last week. Marshall’s return gives the Eagles some more experienced wide receiver depth.

The Eagles still have one open practice squad spot remaining.

PARRY NICKERSON

Nickerson spent five games on the Eagles’ roster earlier this season, occasionally playing on defense as the sixth defensive back in their dime package. He was released after they traded for Michael Carter II but he returned on the practice squad. Now he’s gone entirely, though it’s always possible the Eagles bring him back since Howie Roseman often shuffles the practice squad.
