The future of Robert Lewandowski at FC Barcelona has been a topic of much discussion of late, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Given the fact that he will be turning 38 when the next season starts and his high wages, it has been taken for granted for some time that Barça will not renew the veteran Pole, and he will leave as a free agent in the summer.

Lewandowski ready to make sacrifices to stay

However, according to reports in Poland, as relayed by SPORT, Lewandowski has already made it known to Barcelona through his agent, Pini Zahavi, that he is fully willing to continue for one more year under different economic and sporting conditions.

In other words, the 37-year-old superstar striker is prepared to reduce his salary and take on a more secondary role if necessary in order to continue with the Blaugrana.

However, nothing has been discussed or decided so far, and everything will be addressed during the first months of 2026.

Barcelona sporting director, Deco, has made it clear on several occasions that Lewandowski understands how football works, so he must wait for the decision the club takes, depending on his performance, physical condition, and the club’s financial situation.

If Barcelona are unable to sign a top-level striker, the Lewandowski option will grow stronger because the seasoned campaigner believes he is capable of performing at the highest level for another year.

Lewandowski can negotiate with any club of his choice starting from January. Several clubs have already contacted him to express interest in case he does not continue at Barcelona.

AC Milan are one of the teams showing concrete interest, and some Premier League clubs have also sought information about his situation. But the striker’s entourage has made it clear that they must wait because Lewandowski’s priority is to remain at Barça.

The ball is now in the Blaugrana’s court and it is up to them to decide whether to retain Lewandowski for another year or bring an end to his chapter at the club.
