RANDOLPH — Randolph soccer coach George Mousis has been keeping a big secret from his team for the past few weeks. As the Rams reached the NJSIAA North 1, Group 3 final, Mousis kept joking that he wasn't happy with who the Morris County Boys Soccer Coaches Association had selected for Player of the Year.
But the secret is finally out. Randolph midfielder R.J. Dougherty received the award on Nov. 25.

Dougherty had seven goals and nine assists for the Rams, who also reached the Morris County Tournament final.
"The biggest thing is consistency," he said. "I take pride in every game, performing at my best. ... We had more of a connection and a united goal. Everyone wanted the best for each other and the best for the team."
MCT champion Chatham was named the Team of the Year, and team leader Mark Maka is his peers' selection as Coach of the Year. The Cougars did not allow a goal in their four MCT matches, defeating Randolph, 1-0, in the final.

Paone and Faust, Madison's Andrew Haviland and Justin Macrina, Matias Gonzalez of Dover, and Delbarton's Owen Miller have all been invited to play for North 2 in the statewide senior all-star game on Dec. 3.

"We had a great year as a team," said Maka, a Chatham High School guidance counselor who just wrapped up his 13th season as head coach. "The senior group I had this year is fantastic. We had great leadership. They put so much work in."

"High school soccer pressure is different," Morris Knolls coach and MCBSCA president Mike Mugavero said. "Club players don't walk into school the next morning with 1,500 people knowing exactly how last night's game went. But you do. Your classmates know. Your teachers know. Your entire school knows. You carry that responsibility — the joy of big wins and the consequences of tough losses — in front of the entire community. That pressure is real, and you embraced it."
