GREEN BAY, Wis (WFRV) — This past Sunday, Packers running back Emanuel Wilson stepped up, filling in for an injured Josh Jacobs against the Minnesota Vikings. And, in Wilson’s first career start, he went for 107 yards on the ground on 28 carries with two touchdowns.

Here’s my conversation with Wilson for WFRV Sports (TRANSCRIPT):

FOWLER: An undrafted free agent, played at a smaller school — now you get to play for the Packers and be a featured part of this offense. What does that mean to you? Do you carry a big chip on your shoulder because of that?

WILSON: Yes sir, all the time. Coming from an HBCU, a Division II school, a lot of people get stepped on. There are a lot of playmakers at the Division II level. So yeah, it puts a big chip on my shoulder. Even when I got cut, I just made sure I wasn’t going back home.

FOWLER: For the people who didn’t believe in you — didn’t think you’d make it this far — what would you want to say to them?

WILSON: A lot… but what I really want to say, I ain’t gonna say. I just know that God got me — and look at me now.

FOWLER: Moving forward now, what’s it going to take to keep up the pace and keep doing what you’re doing?

WILSON: Continue to be me. Be dialed in on the little things. Keep God first and let Him lead me.

FOWLER: And to play behind a guy like Josh Jacobs — what does that mean to you? How much do you learn from someone like that?

WILSON: I learn a lot from Josh, even outside of work — like financial stuff. I had a deep conversation with him one time about a mental health problem I had going on. We talked, and it was great learning from him. He’s a great guy, and I look up to him as a big brother.

FOWLER: Would you call him a mentor as well?

WILSON: Oh, for sure. For sure. I live with my kids, honestly, but yeah — he’s somebody special.
