ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke’s Powerhouse Elite youth football program is once again on the national stage, this time with its 8U team preparing for a trip to Naples, Florida. The squad will compete in the Atlantic Youth Football Nationals from December 7-14, aiming to bring another championship home to the Star City.

Success is nothing new for Powerhouse Elite. Across multiple age groups, the program has captured state, regional, and national titles. But according to coaches, parents, and players, the mission goes far deeper than trophies.

“It’s bigger than football,” coach Eric Sparrow said. “These kids are bought in because of our leadership. We have some of the best coaches, and it’s about making them better young men. Helping them believe in themselves and achieve much more.”

The program has already produced athletes who’ve gone on to play at the high school and college levels, a testament to the organization’s long-term impact on young players.

For the 8U athletes, the excitement is building as they prepare for their biggest stage yet.“We feel great,” one player said. “We work hard. I’ve learned to run fast, play corner, and have fun with my buddies.”

Powerhouse Elite enters the tournament with confidence and motivation to repeat history. Last year, the program’s 7U team captured a national title, earning commendations from Roanoke Mayor Joe Cobb and even Virginia’s governor.

“Oh my gosh, it would mean so much to go back-to-back,” Sparrow said. “Winning last year showed that a team from Roanoke can defy the odds. Having that opportunity again proves our method works. Helping every kid become better than they ever thought they could be.”

The young Roanokers will take the field in Florida next week with the city behind them and another championship within reach.
