The Cumberland County Lady Jets have opened the 2025-’26 basketball season on fire. After rolling over Wartburg Central in the season opener last week, the Lady Jets picked up two wins last weekend to move to 3-0 on the year.
The highlight of the weekend was Cumberland County’s 85-74 victory Saturday over Rhea County in Evensville. The night before, the Lady Jets took down Concord Christian by a score of 77-54 in Crossville.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJunior Sydney Wilhite set the pace for Cumberland County in its victory over Rhea County. She hit from just about everywhere on the court, scoring on driving layups to the basket and from deep beyond the 3-point line.
Wilhite couldn’t miss. She scored 52 points in the win, setting what is believed to be a school record for most points in a game.
Cumberland County matched baskets with Rhea County early in the game. RCHS took the advantage midway through the first quarter and led 27-25 at the horn. That continued in the second period as the Lady Jets fell behind 49-40 at the intermission.
Wilhite was the main charge for CCHS. She scored 13 in the first quarter and nine in the second period. But Wilhite also got support from Mady Spriggs, Carlie Killeen and Sadie Swafford.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWilhite stepped the pace up in the third quarter with 19 points of her own, setting another school record with five 3-pointers in the period. Kaedinse Wilson also scored, as did Olivia Futrell and Caylin Hale. The late push helped CCHS lead 72-69 heading into the fourth quarter.
Behind Wilhite’s 52 points, Cumberland County got 10 points from Spriggs and nine from Killeen. Swafford chipped in with five points and Futrell added four. Wilson tallied three points, while Hale had two.
Janna Bourchard led Rhea County with 30 points. Jaslyn Butler scored 18 points, while Jetta Sharp scored 16.
Early surge leads CCHS girls over Concord, 77-54
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Cumberland County Lady Jets had little trouble with Concord Christian last week. CCHS rushed out to a 14-5 lead early in the first period and led 21-9 heading into the second quarter.
CCHS’ defense stymied Concord in the second period, holding it to only eight points in the quarter. On the other end of the floor, Wilhite came on strong offensively. She led a charge that included Swafford, Futtrell and Killeen to push the Cumberland County Lady Jets to a 44-17 advantage at the intermission.
Concord started to come back slightly in the second half, staying close with Cumberland County. CCHS got scores from Aslin Welch and Spriggs to take a 64-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Wilhite scored 26 points in the win for CCHS. Spriggs tallied 12 points, while Swafford had nine. Killeen, Futrell and Hale scored seven points each. Welch added five points in the win, with Madison Wagner scoring three and Wilson getting one.

Cumberland County will be back on the road Nov. 25 when CCHS travels to Carthage to take on Smith County.
CCHS boys remain undefeated
The Cumberland County High School boys moved to 3-0 on the season this past weekend with victories over Concord Christian and Rhea County. The Jets took down Concord Christian by a score of 84-36 and then followed that with a 75-55 win over Rhea County.
