Manchester United missed the chance to move into the Premier League top five after they were held to a draw at home to West Ham United.
United’s last home game was a disaster – beaten by a 10-man Everton on a night where Ruben Amorim’s side reverted back to some of their old, worrying habits.
Thursday’s showing was not much better with the hosts again devoid of any real intensity or cutting edge.
Victory would have lifted United up to fifth, level on points with fourth place Chelsea.
But another missed opportunity leaves them slumped in eighth.

After another slow start, United found the breakthrough just before the hour mark. Casemiro’s deflected shot broke into the path of Diogo Dalot whose first touch was excellent, setting him up to first past Alphonse Areola in the West Ham goal.

United failed to build on their lead and as they have so often let happen, allowed the game to drift from them.
With 83 minutes on the clock, Jarrod Bowen latched onto a corner with his header kept off the line by Noussair Mazraoui. Soungoutou Magassa was onto the rebound in a flash, keeping his cool to slot into an empty net.
