Give me a lighthearted recap
Twister is the very definition of a big summer popcorn flick: bombastic, breathtaking, thrilling... and to hell with details and logic. There are some great moments that still come to mind 29 years later. Cows, swirling in the air. A tornado ripping apart a drive-in (in the middle of The Shining, no less – how rude). The awesome sight of a mile-wide F5 tornado tearing across the countryside, and the you-can't-be-serious moment of Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill (Bill Paxton) managing to avoid getting sucked up to Oz by strapping themselves to pipes. All of them, awe-inspiring scenes of spectacle. But be thankful that there is one moment that hasn't taken up residence in your cranium, a WTF, NSFW blink-and-you'll-miss-it bit of abject horror: a naked dude standing in a cornfield.
The Mystery of "Naked Dude in a Cornfield" in 'Twister'
The moment occurs at around the 55-minute mark of the film, as Jo, Bill, and their ragtag group of storm chasers take a shortcut through a cornfield to get ahead of an F2 tornado, nearly running into Jonas Miller (Cary Elwes) and his team on the road when they emerge. You've likely seen the scene over and over, and can't recall seeing a nude dude at any point. But that's why the Good Lord invented the internet, and thanks to some eagle-eyed viewers, with presumably a ton of free time on their hands, the moment is captured here (trust your friends at Collider and use the link – typing "twister naked guy" gets you a lot of "right-hand blue, left-hand green" pics you don't want to see).
One internet sleuth, courtesy of Wichita Falls, TX radio station 106.3 The Buzz, discovered that, despite being set in Oklahoma, any scene where a cornfield is present was shot in Iowa, which means absolutely nothing other than a great opportunity to throw in a random piece of obscure trivia readers can share with their friends. Besides, the "where" is secondary to the "who," or even the "what" of WTF. So, who is it? No one knows for sure.

Posts By Chris McPherson Aug 11, 2025He could be a scarecrow, but when's the last time you ever saw a naked scarecrow? Unless they're a thing in Iowa, but you'd think crows wouldn't be terribly afraid of it. They'd probably perch on its, um, cornstalk. He could be a random passerby, a farmer, or even a stunt coordinator, but there again, why would any of these people be nude in a cornfield? And how freakishly tall is this birthday suit Billy that he can stand over a cornstalk? I guess if Godzilla can stand in the ocean, a guy could stand in a cornstalk, but the only plausible explanation is that the NBA is growing basketball players in the fields of Iowa, among naked scarecrows.
'Twister's Nude Dude in a Cornfield Joins a Long List of Hollywood "Blink-and-You-Miss-It" Moments
Of course, Twister isn't the first film to have a "blink-and-you-miss-it" moment. In fact, it joins a long, long list of them. Most are innocuous in nature, like the camera operator that can be seen in the duel scene between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Draco (Tom Felton) in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, or the croissant that turns into a pancake in Pretty Woman. Some have gained a degree of infamy, like the fake baby in American Sniper or the white whale of movie flubs: stormtrooper meets door in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Can't hit a target worth a damn with a laser gun, but try walking through a door and all of a sudden, stormtroopers can't miss.
You have to admit, though, that it takes a real set of ears of corn to stand in a cornfield, wearing nothing as trucks go racing by on their way to a twister, movie magic or not. Can you imagine that 9-1-1 call? So props to you, unknown naked Iowan cornfield guy in Twister. Enjoy your .05 seconds of fame, my nude friend. Now get some damn pants.
Twister is available to rent or buy on VOD services.
