There's nothing like a software update to make an old device feel new again. Samsung has been rolling out its One UI 8 update to its smartwatches, but it's been a slow and steady process.
Naturally, the brand's been focused on its newer models, but we're now getting word that the update is finally hitting the Galaxy Watch 6 in the US (via 9to5Google).
Definitely worth the wait
Galaxy Watch 6 users have been waiting for this update, ever since it landed in beta in South Korea. For the most part, the brand has done a pretty good job of rolling out its update to its watches, ensuring that it doesn't hit any snags along the way.
The latest update is built on Google's Wear OS 6 and features new watch faces, UI enhancements, additional gesture support, and more. But perhaps the most interesting addition with this update is Samsung's Now Bar. The Now Bar will be able to show live information on the screen to better keep users informed.
This can work for timers, workouts, and other apps, and it can even keep them all in the Now Bar at the same time. It will be interesting to see Samsung flesh this feature out over time.
More updates to come
Despite Samsung committing to seven years of updates on its phones, watches are a little different, with the brand only offering a maximum of four years of support. Luckily, the Galaxy Watch 6 still has a couple of years of software updates left, with support set to expire in 2027. But as the device ages, it will be interesting to see just how smoothly it can run the new software releases.
Grab it now
Since the update is rolling out now, it's a good idea to check your Galaxy Watch 6 to see if it's available. 9to5Google reports seeing the update for T-Mobile and Verizon models, and also suggests that it should be available on other variants as well. You can check for the update by heading into the Settings menu and tapping the Software update section. You can also head into Galaxy Wearable app on your phone to see if the update is available as well.
