Is Dan Quinn optimistic about Jayden Daniels for Week 14?

Still not cleared for contact?

That was what Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn expressed to the local media on Wednesday when asked about quarterback Jayden Daniels.

"He has not been cleared for contact, stated Quinn. "That would be a game decision, but they'll also wait for the whole week too. They have more testing and movements to examine, so that's where we're at."

Does this mean Quinn is hoping to hear the report from the medical personnel as late as Friday? If Daniels is cleared for contact on Friday, would Quinn go ahead and start Daniels against the Vikings on Sunday, in Minnesota? What if the word comes on Saturday? Does this mean Quinn has drawn the line that if Marcus Mariota is told on Friday he is starting, he will indeed start, not Daniels?

Quinn spoke of himself being "Optimistic he’s (Daniels) going to get a lot of reps for practice. I'm going to take it all the way through Friday. There are still functional evaluations to go through, but the game plan and practicing, and that part is good. You'll see on the side it's, I’d say it's a little more challenging to work at quarterback when you're not doing the same contact. So, we'll have to simulate as much as we can, but he's off to a good start. But we'll go all the way through Friday for sure, but he'll get a lot of reps at practice."

We all know the Commanders are only 3-9, and that Daniels has only played in half the games. Further, with Daniels injured in three games this season, Mariota has played more than Daniels through 12 games.

But what we don't know is who will start at quarterback this week against the Vikings.
