An upcoming Zack Snyder movie gets a compelling preview from Tig Notaro. The comedian and actor previously starred in Zack Snyder's 2021 movie Army of the Dead, where she played helicopter pilot Marianne Peters, and went viral due to her character's attractiveness.
During the On with Kara Swisher podcast, Notaro now teased that she is working on a "hot lesbian action" movie with Snyder, which is confirmed to be in development with the working title of Deviants. She explained that her Army of the Dead character going viral contributed to the creation of the project. Check out her comments below:
What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian? He was like, "Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie." And so who knows? It’s a Hollywood project. We’re in the process of putting the script together. Picture this poster: We have the name of the film, and then it says "Hot Lesbian Action." That’s how I sold him on the Zoom.
Notaro also gave an idea of when the movie takes place and why it is called Deviants, explaining that "As of now, the movie is called Deviants, and takes place back in some old-timey days, like some closeted deviants.”
Since the script is still being put together and the project is still in the development stage, it is a long way from coming to fruition, but it is officially in motion.
Originally, Notaro was not supposed to be part of Army of the Dead's cast. Chris D'Elia was originally cast as the helicopter pilot and even filmed all scenes for the role. After sexual misconduct allegations were made against D'Elia, though, Snyder replaced him with Notaro via green screen and CGI reshoots, long after production had wrapped on the film.

No one, not even Notaro, anticipated the response to her character, especially when considering the late stage at which she came on board for the project. She detailed how the character went viral and her response to being called attractive by a wide range of individuals.
I go viral for being sexy in this film. And it was so unexpected. My phone’s exploding. I’m not walking around going "Oh my God," you know, "check me out." I was so confused. So I called Zack, and I said, "I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie."
Snyder and Notaro's new movie comes in the aftermath of Netflix quietly canceling the Army of the Dead franchise and with no confirmed plans for more Rebel Moon sequels. Deviants is also being developed with James Gunn's DCU fully underway, as the cinematic universe has been completely rebooted after Snyder's projects in the DCEU.
Unlike Snyder's DCEU movies, Rebel Moon, or Army of the Dead, Deviants appears to be more of a standalone film than one that is meant to be part of a larger franchise. He has directed his fair share of standalone movies before, including 300, Sucker Punch, and Watchmen.
From 300 to his take on DC's superheroes, Zack Snyder is well-known for his highly stylized action sequences. While little is known about Deviants at this time, he brings extensive experience as an action movie director, with this often being praised as the best part of his standalone and franchise films.
