Louisville did a great job finding a gem in Cherry before he blew up into a national recruit. He was pretty unknown when he committed to the Cards, but it didn’t take long for him to get noticed on the camp circuit, which culminated in him being an Elite 11 finalist. Cherry has all of the tools you want to see from a passing standpoint, with his arm strength standing out more than anything.

Cherry puts great pace on the ball on short and intermediate throws, and he can get the ball down the field with ease. His ability to float deep balls 40 yards down the sideline with a flick of his wrist is pretty remarkable when paired with the RPMs on his throws on slants and out routes. He also does very well with bootlegs and other pocket movements where he has to throw on the move. He reminds me a bit of Deuce Adams as a passer.

The only two potential issues I see with Cherry are his lack of bulk and his foot speed. He will build onto his frame as he gets in the weight room, but getting up to 225 pounds would be nice to see to protect himself and to help him when he needs to run or be used for sneaks. As for his foot speed, he just isn’t a fast runner, which isn’t great when you see it on film with lesser talent. It’s a bit of a concern that he could become a statue in the pocket, but that won’t take away from his overall potential. It just limits some of the things you can do with him as a play caller. If the Brohm brothers can develop him, Cherry has all of the makings of a starter for the Cards in the future.
