Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #11
Star Wars has surprisingly revealed a brand-new lightsaber wielded by Kylo Ren amid one of his most intense dark side trials. As seen in the new and canonical comics from Marvel, it's been revealed that the Supreme Leader briefly used a completely different lightsaber than the iconic crossguard saber seen in the sequels.
Set between the events of The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, Marvel's ongoing Legacy of Vader series has seen Kylo Ren learning more about his grandfather's life and power in the dark side, aided by Vaneé, the still-living caretaker of Vader's castle on Mustafar.
However, Vaneé desperately wishes to see Vader reborn through Kylo Ren to the point of trying to baptize Ben Solo in lava. Breaking free in Legacy of Vader #11, this new Star Wars story sees Kylo Ren facing all manner of dangers within his grandfather's fortress to get to Vaneé, all while wielding a new lightsaber.
Kylo Ren's New Gold Lightsaber Is Incredibly Cool
After evading all manner of traps within Vader's Mustafar castle, Legacy of Vader #11 sees Kylo Ren facing a full squad of Darktroopers unarmed...at least until he finds a wall of discarded Jedi lightsabers nearby, likely kept as trophies by Darth Vader himself.
Selecting a hilt with some exposed components, Kylo Ren is shown igniting the green-bladed weapon to take on the deadly Darktroopers in this new issue.
This new lightsaber hilt is completely gold, while also featuring a rather unique emitter. While it would have been cool had the lightsaber been familiar and belonged to a known Jedi Knight hunted down by Vader, it's just as impressive to see this brand-new lightsaber design, complete with an exposed green kyber crystal.
However, the lightsaber blade doesn't stay green for very long in Kylo Ren's year, as he ends up bleeding it in alignment with his current dark side path.
How Kylo Ren's New Lightsaber Echoes His Classic Crossguard Saber
Without a doubt, the best part of Kylo Ren's new lightsaber is that it ends up serving as a peak callback to his signature lightsaber with its crossguard vents and unstable blade.
Just like in Charles Soule's Rise of Kylo Ren series from 2019, where it was explained that the unstable blade was the result of Ben Solo cracking his kyber while bleeding it, Kylo has done the very same thing in 2025 in Soule's Legacy of Vader #11.
As a result, there's a pretty big implication here that the cracking of kyber crystals likely has to do with Ben Solo's inherent power in the Force, potentially even connected to his status as a vergence and unique connection as a Force dyad with Rey.
At any rate, it's pretty awesome to see Kylo Ren canonically wielding an all-new lightsaber in this new Star Wars story.
