On Wednesday, the Penn State Nittany Lions were rejected by yet another head-coaching candidate in as many days.

First, on Tuesday, news surfaced that one of Penn State's ideal targets for the position, Kalani Sitake, had agreed to sign an extension with BYU, cutting off the possibility of bringing him to State College.

"Penn State getting spurned by a Sitake extension continued a trend of their college football coaching search, where most of the top candidates for the job have opted to re-sign with their current schools rather than make the jump to Happy Valley," CBS Sports' Robby Kalland wrote.

Sitake's decision only amplified the direness of Penn State to find a suitable James Franklin replacement.

On Wednesday, the schools zeroed in another potential candidate, and it was rejected again.

Louisville coach Jeff Brohm reportedly turned down the Nittany Lions' job and opted to stay with the Cardinals, according to a report from SI.

"After the Nittany Lions were rebuffed by BYU’s Kalani Sitake on Tuesday, Brohm was presented with terms of a deal by Penn State," Pat Forde of SI said. "Agreeing to leave on the same day Brohm was signing a new freshman class with Louisville was not an attractive option, sources say."

Things are now getting down to the wire for Penn State to find a new head coach.

According to Forde, sources say former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll is still an option for the Nittany Lions. He comes with head-coaching experience in the NFL and the experience of working as the offensive coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban.

As for Brohm, SI reports that Brohm and Louisville athletic director Josh Heird have been "reworking his contract and other program enhancements" over the past few weeks.

"Other coaches are looking around going, 'What is going on over there?'" 247Sports recruiting analyst Brian Dohn said during live National Signing Day coverage. "Penn State will come back from it because it's Penn State and it's the dominant program in the region.

"They'll be fine in the long run, but in the short term, 'embarrassing' is putting it mildly."
