The outside noise has only grown louder with each win. It's only December, but the chase to 70 wins has reached a fever pitch for the Oklahoma City Thunder. They're off to a historic 21-1 start. They have the highest point differential in NBA history.
No matter how you spin it, the Thunder look like one of the most dominating teams in league history. Which is what they did last season, except they've somehow one-upped themselves from a 68-win regular season that included a Larry O'Brien trophy.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Thunder extended their win streak to 13 in a row after they avoided an epic collapse in their 124-112 win over the Golden State Warriors. Even though it was a decade ago, the latter still has a few familiar faces left from their 2015-16 season that saw them go an NBA-best 73-9.
One is Draymond Green. The four-time NBA champion is one of the pillars of the NBA's recent dynasty. The former Defensive Player of the Year winner has been impressed with OKC's historic dominance. When asked if he thinks they could break their record, he believes they're in the ballpark.
"It's hard, man, but I do think they're capable. You just need so many things to go right, though. Health, which they kinda fly right through health. It don't matter, it seems. A lot of breaks have to go your way. But they're on the right track," Green said. "And like I said, they're more than capable. I think 73 wins took some years off my life. It's hard. But like I said, they're capable of a lot."
Don't expect the Thunder to chase that dragon. While 70-plus wins are on the table, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is more focused on another NBA championship. Their actions have backed up that mindset. They've juggled injuries all season and have been extra cautious.

When Gilgeous-Alexander isn't dropping 30 points in three quarters, he's ripping the souls of other fanbases with clutch-time buckets to carry OKC to the finish line.
The chase to 70-plus wins will be a season-long storyline to follow. Through one-plus months of the season, it's obvious who the best team in the NBA is. The Thunder look primed to go back-to-back.
