Memphis football quarterback Arrington Maiden plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced Dec. 3.
Maiden, a redshirt freshman from College Station, Texas, has three years of eligibility remaining.

The Memphis staff never named a backup between Hill and Maiden, and both played in relief of Lewis. Maiden got his most extensive work against Tulane on Nov. 7 when he replaced an injured Lewis in the fourth quarter and nearly brough the Tigers back for a comeback win. He was 4-of-6 for 51 yards and also rushed five times for 35 yards in that game.
Maiden also had a signature moment against Arkansas on Sept. 20, when he replaced Lewis late in the fourth quarter because Lewis' helmet came off during a play. Maiden ultimately carried multiple Arkansas defenders to rush for a first down that sealed an upset win for the Tigers.
He decided to enter the transfer portal after coach Ryan Silverfield left for Arkansas.
"Tiger nation I plan on hitting the portal January 2nd I would love to discuss with new coaching staff what their plan is for me and memphis’s future, however I feel it’s only fair for me explore other opportunities when the time comes," Maiden wrote on social media platform X. "Thank you."
