Going into Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season, how good are the Houston Texans? Even with a 7-5 record, not every team is built the same because of scheduling and injuries.

That's not Houston's case, which comes in with a 3.0 Football Power Index (FPI) rating from ESPN, good enough for 11th overall in the NFL. Heading into Week 13, the Texans are among the top half of teams, especially after winning four straight games, including three against divisional opponents.

The Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off a close loss against the Dallas Cowboys and 6-6 record, will take on the Texans this Sunday night on NBC at Arrowhead Stadium. With a win, Houston would all but guarantee a third-straight winning season and a spot in the AFC playoff picture.

Even with a loss on the road, the Texans are very much still in the playoff running and are the potential favorite to come back and win the AFC South. As for Kansas City, it ranks first overall in FPI rankings with a 6.8 metric.

FPI is "a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season," according to ESPN.com.

The Texans will end a two-game road trip before coming home against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. If Houston plans on getting back into the playoff picture, it needs to be in every game for the remainder of the regular season, knowing a loss could be the reason setbacks occur after back-to-back 10-win campaigns.
