Names matter, you know? Names confer meaning, and if you’re a little bit woo-woo, names influence the path of those that carry them. It just feels “right” that the workmanlike DE in the NFL was named Reggie White. It feels “right” that Peyton Manning is a 6’5 QB who slings it all over the yard. Jemelle Holloway had no choice but to be Jemelle Holloway. Mojo Williams is a name that does it for me.
Mojo, or Maurice, Williams Jr, is another Southern boy joining the Colorado Buffaloes. He plays at Edna Karr High School in the New Orleans area of Louisiana, which is a surprising hotbed for the Buffs. From that spot, he helped lead his team to a state championship his junior. He was committed to Libery until this summer when he flipped to the Buffs, but he had plenty of offers, including Washington and Georgia Tech.

Deion Sanders has shown a preference for corners that can play press man consistently and Williams fits the bill. He’s long for his 5’10 frame, athletic and plays the ball while it’s up in the air better than a lot of cornerbacks that I’ve seen at the high school level. He will join a secondary that needs a lot of new faces next year to be successful.
Welcome, Mojo!
