The city will be the same. Freddie Wilson is just going two miles down the road.
After announcing his decommitment from Georgia Tech in a social media post Tuesday, Dec. 2, the Spruce Creek defensive lineman is flipping to fellow Atlanta school Georgia State, he told The Daytona Beach News-Journal. Wilson plans to sign with the Panthers as the early signing period opens Wednesday.

And Georgia State has also recruited me throughout the process in the fall, too, so that’s a great thing. They stuck with me.”
Wilson, a three-star prospect, had been committed to Georgia Tech since July.
“Things kind of went left (with the Yellow Jackets), but I’m trying to make it right, and Georgia State is where I see myself playing,” he said.
The Panthers contacted him early in the process. He visited for their home game against Old Dominion in October 2024, the same month they offered him.

As a senior this fall, he followed up with 70 tackles and two sacks. The Hawks ranked among the area’s elite teams with a 9-3 record and a regional semifinal appearance.
Wilson is the only Volusia-Flagler player on the USA Today Florida Network’s list of the state's top 100 recruits in the class of 2026. He sits 72nd.
Defensive line coach Jeremy Hawkins has been his main contact at Georgia State.
“He’s pretty straightforward,” Wilson said. “He’s a great coach as well. He’ll tell me the real, what I need to know and where I need to get and what I need to be to be a great ballplayer.”

“I’ve been to Atlanta quite often, so that really does not faze me at all about the scenery or the city,” he said. “That’s really great. I know my way around.”
