What a week for Deacon Schmitt.
The Windsor High School senior signed with the powerhouse Oklahoma football program on Dec. 3 and will play for the Colorado Class 3A football state championship on Dec. 6.

"I’m used to being busy but this is more fun than anything. Everything that’s happening this week is good," Schmitt told the Coloradoan.
Despite some late pushes by other power programs, the Class of 2026 senior held firm on his commitment to the Sooners and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh.
"They’re just as excited as I am. I talk to the OU folks all the time and we’re ready to get this done," Schmitt said.
Schmitt is the No. 2 overall player in Colorado and No. 19 interior offensive lineman in the country, according to 247Sports Composite.

Schmitt has helped pave the way up front for a 13-0 run to the 3A state title game, with Windsor's offense putting up over 4,000 total yards (3,377 rushing) and 36.2 points per game this season.
The top-seeded Wizards face Pomona for the 3A crown in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown.
It's also a de-facto home game for Windsor, which is 15 miles away from the championship venue at Colorado State University's Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins.
"CSU is about 20 minutes from my house and they were my first offer. It’s awesome to play here, never played in a stadium like this before," Schmitt said.

True to form, Schmitt is approaching the busy week with a smile but is also "dialed in," Windsor coach Chris Jones said.
Windsor has a chance to win just the fifth football state championship in school history and first since 2015.
"I'm just staying focused on the task at hand. You’re only as good as your last practice is how I approach it," Schmitt said.
Schmitt is among an Oklahoma 2026 recruiting class that is ranked 15th in the country, per 247Sports. However, he's one of just two offensive line signees among the expect class, joining three-star Noah Best.

When Schmitt committed to the Sooners back in June, he promised to be a "bodyguard" for heralded 4-star quarterback commit Bowe Bentley and hit the "Horns Down" gesture to jab at rival Texas.
"I hit the 'Horns Down' because the sight of burnt orange makes me puke. I don't like that color," Schmitt told the Coloradoan then.
Oklahoma beat out more than 20 other Power 4 programs, including Alabama, home-state school Colorado, Tennessee, USC and Georgia for the offensive lineman.
Schmitt is the latest in a recent run of Northern Colorado offensive linemen heading to power-conference programs.
