Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) dropped several spots after losing to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) last Friday, going from No. 3 to No. 7 in Tuesday night's penultimate College Football Playoff Rankings. A drop was expected, but this steep after one loss against a ranked opponent on the road? That will be debated throughout the week.
The Aggies performed poorly on both sides of the ball during Friday's loss to the Longhorns, failing to contain quarterback Arch Manning. At the same time, Texas A&M star QB Marcel Reed had his worst showing of the season, passing for a pedestrian 180 yards and two interceptions.

Not to ignore Reed's performance against Texas, but every star is allowed a bad game every once in a while, and head coach Mike Elko, who recently signed a six-year extension, is likely relieved to have a trustworthy signal caller heading into the CFP and the 2026 offseason.
This week, the Aggies will rest and wait to see whether they host a game at Kyle Field in the first round of the CFP, or possibly fall below the 8-seed, which would mean opening the postseason on the road. Until then, we'll continue to reflect on what this team has accomplished after reaching 11-0 for the first time since 1992. In 12 games this season, Marcel Reed threw for a career high 2,932 yards, 25 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and over 400 yards and six rushing scores.
On Monday, PFSN analyst Cam Mellor released his final SEC quarterback grades, which showed Marcel Reed coming in at No. 7 among the 16 conference QBs, earning a solid 85.0 overall mark, and is one spot above Texas QB Arch Manning (84.3). Marcel Reed and the Aggies will continue to rest, recover, and prepare for whoever they face in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
