The first Jayden Daniels update of the week has arrived.
The second-year Washington Commanders quarterback is set to return to practice this week, but he is considered a long shot to play against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, according to multiple reports. ESPN's Adam Schefter described Daniels as "unlikely" to play on Sunday Night Football in Week 13.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDaniels (6-4, 210 pounds) took 17 sacks in Washington's first six games of the season before suffering an elbow injury. Denver's defense, meanwhile, leads the NFL with 49 sacks, averaging nearly 4.5 sacks per contest. So it's no surprise that the Commanders won't rush Daniels back into action when they're 3-8 going into SNF.
DC is 1-4 with Marcus Mariota serving as a fill-in starter. Mariota has completed 65.7% of his passes for 1,065 yards with seven touchdowns against five interceptions while Daniels has been sidelined. Mariota has also rushed 27 times for 193 yards and one score.
The NFL opted not to flex the Broncos-Commanders game out of primetime, and unfortunately, it looks like it won't be a Daniels vs. Bo Nix showdown on Nov. 30.
