We recently wrote that John Spytek should remain the general manager of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025.
Yes, Chip Kelly deserved to be fired and coach Pete Carroll and Geno Smith may be heading to going one-and-done with the team. But we think Spytek should stay.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWe asked our community members what they think and mot of them agree as about 80 percent of the voters think Spytek should remain in Las Vegas next year.
While Spytek hasn’t been great (this messy season is part on him as well). Still, the Raiders needs some consistency and stability at the top of the franchise.
Spytek and his staff (which is well regarded) need time to build the program. Spytek and the team’s ownership will need to finally make the right call with the head coach. But he needs to be involved. And it’s apparent many fans feel the same.

I say keep Spy , Carroll and Geno should be let go but I see Pete calling it quits.
Weeks ago when our season was over and Pete would not play the young guys thats when he lost me

The Wilkins fiasco alone was grounds to fire Telesco. $45 million dead cap over the next two years for that disaster. He also signed Minshew not as a bridge for the rookie QB he should have moved up to get but to compete with AOC for the starting job. Ridiculous. Amateur hour. Howie would cut his arm off before he would allow his team to be fkd at QB like that.
Bad contracts left Spytek with $87 million dead cap and counting. We have starters playing for peanuts, didn’t re-sign our FAs and still have no cap space.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSpytek doesn’t have the clout to force Pete to play his rookies. Bech makes a nice catch and then sits on the bench. From what I’ve heard, Charles Grant has as much upside as any tackle taken outside the first round but he’s raw. Third round tackles don’t start in the NFL year one and when they do you get DJ Glaze. For all we know, both those OL picks were solid.
We have no idea how good this draft is and won’t for at least another year.

Fact of the matter is… While Pete and Chip are terribly bad… absolutely horrendous… it doesn’t negate Spytek. He’s shown absolutely nothing but a pretty poor job himself.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt amazes me how many people talk shit about Reggie… he was without a doubt the best Gm we’ve had since Mark came back (or at the very least the second best GM)…. Reggie immediately fixed the cap which I don’t think some recall how bad contracts were. Then he had some great draft picks w/ Mack, Carr, Gabe Jackson, good late rd RBs that contributed, Cooper, etc. but most significantly perhaps, he built a superior OL, showing you build via the trenches and that’s why Carr was so successful those couple of years… he had a great Oline that Reggie established via FA and the draft. I liked that strategy a lot.
Then we had Telesco and he’s a guy who has consistently stacked the Chargers with talent and gave us the best player we’ve had in a while and a nice draft. Instead of rewarding him Mark goes with Brady’s ridiculous opinions (like bringing in McDs and his roommate for GM… Then Brady advises on bringing in his personal roommate Spytek, as well as Pete & Chip…. I think it’s time to a) STOP listening to Brady like he’s done anything to prove he deserves to be listened to in this capacity and b) stop the nepotism which all those Pats guys are known for but tbh it’s rampant in the NFL in general and c) Brady’s ear whispering has contributed to setting this franchise back probably 5-10 yrs).
Spytek better prove something quick with this next draft. Never should have got rid of Telesco…. We know where that came from
