Jazzy Davidson wins another award, follows the path of USC legends

On Monday, USC women's basketball guard Jazzy Davidson was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the Big Ten conference announced in a press release.

"Last week, Davidson delivered a standout stretch, earning her first career double-double on Tuesday against Tennessee Tech before adding her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season in Friday's matchup with Pepperdine," USC Athletics wrote in its own announcement about Davidson's feat.

"She posted a breakthrough performance versus Tennessee Tech, finishing with 20 points (9-of-14 FG) and a career-high 16 rebounds. Her 16 boards not only led all players but also marked the most by a USC freshman since Rayah Marshall's performance against Texas Southern on Dec. 18, 2021. Davidson also chipped in four assists and two blocks to round out the effort."

This is the second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award Davidson has won this season; she was previously recognized for the same award on November 10.

In case you're wondering, USC superstar JuJu Watkins won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award 14 times during her first season in Cardinal and Gold back in 2023-24. Watkins also won the Pac-12 Player of the Week award 3 times and the AP National Player of the Week award 2 times.

Fellow No. 1 recruit in the nation Davidson may not be quite on Watkins' pace, but having her name even in the same sentence as players like Watkins and Rayah Marshall, two modern USC women's basketball legends, is worth celebrating in and of itself.
