Tennessee safety Marcus Goree plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Tennessee safety Marcus Goree plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He’s the latest member of the Volunteers defensive unit to decide to leave Knoxville.

Goree played high school football at Bradley Central (Cleveland, TN), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 534 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that complies all major recruiting media services.

Goree spent the past two seasons with Tennessee. He’s accumulated two total tackles over that time. He’ll be hoping to make a larger impact wherever he ends up in 2026.

The defensive back chose the Volunteers over programs like Michigan, Nebraska, Colorado and Michigan State. Time will tell if any of those schools are interested this time around.

Goree is the fourth Tennessee player to make his intentions known about the transfer portal. Fellow defense back Boo Carter and defensive linemen Jamal Wallace and Kellen Lindstrom are also planning to leave the Volunteers.

Head coach Josh Heupel is no stranger to this new world of college football. He addressed what the offseason will bring following a season-ending loss to Vanderbilt over the weekend.

“This (game) just wrapped up a few seconds ago,” Heupel said. “It’s my job to evaluate everything inside of our program and, you know, I told our players we’ve had some disappointing results, but the second half was extremely disappointing. Coaches and players, not just one.”

Heupel was also asked Saturday night what the coming days will look like for the Tennessee coaching staff as the Vols await their bowl game destination: “We’ll have a chance to meet with our guys and move forward as a program,” he said, “and revisit the season and look backwards before we look forwards, too.”
