In a Monday Night Football nightmare, New York Giants kicker Younghoe Koo delivered one of the most bizarre field goal failures in NFL history, aborting a 47-yard attempt against the New England Patriots and turning it into a 13-yard loss.

Trailing 17-7 in the second quarter of an eventual 33-15 defeat, Koo approached the ball only to drill his foot into the ground mid-stride, leaving holder Jamie Gillan scrambling with the loose ball before being "sacked."

The viral clip exploded on social media, drawing savage mockery from fans and analysts alike.

The blunder amplified a brutal night for the Giants' special teams, marred by a missed tackle on a long return and a 94-yard kickoff touchdown. It marked a stunning fall from grace for Koo, once hailed as "statistically the most accurate kicker of all-time" just a couple of years ago.

Koo owned the gaffe postgame, blaming frigid conditions.

"I was approaching the ball and, cold weather, the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom, so it was moving," Koo said, via the New York Post. "I wasn't able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it.

"Jamie did a good job of catching it and putting it back, but, at that point, it was too late."

Interim head coach Mike Kafka minced no words on the special teams woes.

"It just wasn't a great team effort. All three phases, everyone's got to step up. Everyone's got to clean up their part of the game. It's never just one phase. It's never just one player, so we all good to do a better job," he said.

On Koo specifically: "I saw it live. I saw it live. The ball kind of slipped a little bit. He wasn't sure if it was going to get set. Jamie tried to reset it and by that time, it was kind of, he was already kind of out of his groove on it. So it was just tough right there," Kafka said.

As the Giants limp to 2-11, Koo's flub -- amid six kickers cycled through in three seasons -- has fans pleading for change. For a franchise mired in misery, this botch was peak humiliation.

All anyone had left in the tank was some mockery.
