Mason Mount has been praised for his impactful heroics after scoring the winning goal of Sunday’s 2-1 triumph at Selhurst Park for Manchester United.

The midfielder was given the nod for yesterday’s clash with Crystal Palace, with his inclusion forcing Amad Diallo back into a more defensive role at wing-back.

Despite a cagey start from the Reds, which saw them concede from the spot in the 36th minute, an inspired showing after the interval saw United complete a full second-half turnaround – and Mount was integral to the result.

Not only did he net a tremendous finish to establish a lead in the 63rd minute, but he completed two dribbles, two long balls and fired 10 passes into the final third.

He also did his bit at the back, too, by making two clearances, winning four duels and six recoveries, as per Fotmob.

At full-time, Samuel Luckhurst singled out the 26-year-old for his efforts, claiming he is becoming ‘increasingly influential’ in Ruben Amorim’s setup.

The match marked the first-ever time that Mount had completed a full 90 minutes in the league for United, which Amorim will hope is the start of an extended run of availability for the star, who’s struggled with unrelenting injury woes since making the switch from Chelsea in 2023.

United fans are already well aware that Amorim is a huge fan of Mount, as he said of the player when he took the reins last November: “I have to tell you I love that kid.

“You can look in his eyes and see that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit, and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”

Alas, you’d expect the Englishman to retain his starting spot for the visit of West Ham this Thursday evening.
