Liverpool host West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday in desperate need of a positive result to restore morale and strengthen the position of manager Arne Slot.

The Reds were beaten 4-1 at Anfield by PSV on Wednesday, meaning they have lost nine of their past 12 games in all competitions, including each of the most recent three.

The champions come into this weekend in 12th place in the standings, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal. With their title defence in disarray, pressure is mounting on Slot to prove he is the right man to turn things around and get the best out of their expensively assembled squad.

West Ham could pose a tricky test. Nuno Espirito Santo's team have taken seven points from their past three games against Newcastle United, Burnley and Bournemouth, and the Portuguese coach has recent history on his side in this fixture, having claimed four points from two meetings with Liverpool last season when in charge of Nottingham Forest.

Florian Wirtz is back for this weekend's game after sitting out the defeats to PSV and Forest and looks set to start on the right-hand side of the front three, with Mohamed Salah dropping to the bench.

Alisson is also back after missing the Champions League game due to illness. In the back four in front of the Brazil goalkeeper, Joe Gomez starts at right-back, meaning Dominik Szoboszlai can revert to his familiar attacking midfield role.

Hugo Ekitike suffered a back injury in midweek but has made the bench, while Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong are not yet ready to return.

Ibrahima Konate struggled against PSV after disrupted training sessions prior to the game, but Gomez's selection in the problem right-back area means the under-fire France defender continues alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

• Injury: Muscle

• Expected return date: December 13

Slot said Bradley had sustained a muscle injury during the international break in November and would not be involved for "the upcoming 22 days".

The home game with Brighton & Hove Albion on December 13 looks like a possible return date.

Jereme Frimpong

• Injury: Hamstring

• Expected return date: December 3

Frimpong suffered the second hamstring injury of his fledgling Liverpool career in Frankfurt. Slot said the former Bayer Leverkusen star is not likely to be back until early December.

Giovanni Leoni

• Injury: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear

• Expected return date: August 2026

Summer signing Leoni suffered a nightmare debut as he horrifically tore an ACL against Southampton. The Italian defender underwent immediate surgery and his campaign has already been cruelly ended.
