After the Los Angeles Lakers sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie and draft compensation to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic in February, there was speculation that there had been a growing rift between Davis and the Lakers. But when he returned to Crypto.com Arena for a game versus Los Angeles on Friday, there was nothing but love shown toward him.

When Davis' name was called during player introductions prior to the opening tip, the crowd gave him some hearty cheers. Once the game was over and the Lakers had notched their sixth straight win with a 129-119 decision, Austin Reaves shared a moment with the superstar big man.

The two exchanged uniforms after the game, and Reaves talked to the media about it.

“I mean, he’s one of the best players to ever touch a basketball,” the guard said. “So, I don’t know why he wanted my jersey. But for me to get his, is pretty fun.”

Plenty of Lakers fans gave Davis a hard time during his time with the team for his perceived shortcomings. But he gave L.A. 24.8 points, 11 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 blocks a game and delivered an NBA championship in his first season with the franchise. He had 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three blocks in 28 minutes on Friday after missing the previous 14 games with a calf strain.

He now has the task of rescuing a Mavericks team that has fallen upon hard times ever since jettisoning Doncic. The Mavs are 5-15 after Friday's contest, and Davis' name is now coming up in trade rumors as some are calling for Dallas to fully reset.

The Lakers, meanwhile, are in second place in the Western Conference with a 14-4 record. Reaves had 38 points on 12-of-15 field-goal shooting versus Dallas, while Doncic contributed 35 points and 11 assists.
