MANHATTAN — Kansas State football quarterback Avery Johnson spoke as if his status in playing in a bowl game with the Wildcats was a given, noting his love for the university, but he also said that he was going to sit down with his family and talk about his future with the program.
Johnson said after Kansas State's 24-14 win over Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 29, that he has "no doubt" in his mind that he wants to play for Kansas State and coach Chris Klieman in 2026.

"There are just things I gotta talk to my family about and pray about, but I'm committed to this place, and I love this place more than anything in the world."
Johnson indicated he'd have that conversation with his family on Sunday, Nov. 30.
The Wildcats have one game remaining after earning bowl eligibility with their sixth win of the season. The game, destination and time will be announced on the afternoon of Dec. 7.
Johnson's future with the program immediately becomes the upcoming offseason's biggest storyline. The Wildcats don't have anyone with extended experience behind him, nor an obvious replacement for him going into next season. Athletic director Gene Taylor said during Klieman's emotional press conference opening statement after K-State's loss at Utah on Nov. 22, that he "wasn't going anywhere."

He saw a drop in his numbers in 2025, which were impacted by uncertainty in the Wildcats' backfield for much of the season and injuries at wide receiver. He completed 60% of his passes for 2,385 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions, while rushing for 477 yards and eight scores.
