West Virginia trails No. 5 Texas Tech 28–0 at halftime in Morgantown after a first half dominated by the Red Raiders. WVU opened with two quick drives that ended up three-and-outs and a third derailed by a holding call, while Texas Tech scored touchdowns on their first three drives to build a 21–0 lead by the end of the opening quarter. Another long drive early in the second made it 28–0 before WVU was finally able to put together a drive that crossed into Red Raider territory.

The Mountaineers generated a few stops late in the half, including a red-zone interception by Ben Cutter that erased a likely score. But Texas Tech still dictated the flow, holding the ball for more than 20 minutes and totaling 351 yards on 57 first-half plays. WVU struggled to get off the field, allowing Tech to convert nine of twelve third downs and hit several chunk gains through the air.

Offensively, WVU didn’t settle in until late in the second quarter. Jeff Weimer accounted for three first downs on one drive, and a trick-play throw from Cam Vaughn to Grayson Barnes moved the ball to the Tech 13. Both series ended empty — one on downs and one on a red-zone interception — keeping the Mountaineers scoreless despite finally generating rhythm in the passing game. The run game has been held to zero net rushing yards.

Fred Perry was carted off in the first quarter with a leg injury and ruled out, which brings his collegiate career to a close.

WVU heads into the locker room looking for something that can translate movement into points as they try to climb back after the break.
