Update 11/24/2025: Will Campbell believed to have suffered MCL sprain, Patriots hopeful for return

After Mike Vrabel shared some insight on the injury status of New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell on Monday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added more information. The rookie is reportedly believed to have sprained his MCL against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, with an MRI set to provide further clarity.

A candidate for injured reserve, which would keep him sidelined for at least four weeks, the hope is that he will be able to return further down the line.

Mike Vrabel refrained from giving concrete injury updates following the New England Patriots’ 26-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. However, he did offer some insight into left tackle Will Campbell’s status during a radio appearance on Monday morning.

According to Vrabel, the rookie is looking at missing the upcoming game against the New York Giants — and possibly then some.

“Yesterday was not a great day for us with injuries,” Vrabel said on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show. “So, there will be some players that went out of that game yesterday that won’t be available on Monday night. Hopefully, we get some of those guys back. We get an extra day, but I won’t be able to tell you much. I wouldn’t imagine that Will’s going to play in the game. I don’t think that will be something that will happen. That injury’s probably going to be more than a week or two.”

Campbell remained on the ground following a run by teammate TreVeyon Henderson in the third quarter. After some initial evaluation on the field, he limped to the blue medical tent before being carted to the locker room.

The 21-year-old was visibly emotional leaving the field, which came as no surprise to his head coach.

“Will’s a young player who hasn’t probably had a lot of injuries or things that have effected him,” Vrabel said. “And so, there are a lot of things we have to manage through that will help these guys get over what they haven’t experienced.”

Campbell was originally announced as questionable to return with a knee injury, before being ruled out later during the game. While the information coming out of the organization was limited, speculation started to fly around that the first-round draft pick might have suffered a sprain.

Vrabel neither confirmed nor denied the rumors, instead reiterating that Campbell was anticipated to miss the Week 13 contest versus the Giants.

“I think you have to understand sprains have different severities,” he said. “Sprain, strain, not sure. But I just know he’s probably not going to be there Monday night, and I don’t think it’s going to be something that’s going to keep him out — it’s not career ending. But I wouldn’t anticipate him being out there Monday.”
